Fried Turkey Nuggets

Unless it’s on a sandwich filled with Dukes mayo and pumped full of sodium, nitrates, nitrites, and other carcinogenic additives, I have never been a fan of turkey. I will say that my wife makes the best Thanksgiving turkey I’ve ever eaten but, we only do it once a year. My dislike for nearly everything turkey changed when I was introduced to this recipe. I’ve had it 3 times and I’ve already told my wife that this Thanksgiving, she can do what what she wants, but I’m making Tae Bae’s fried turkey nuggets. Trust me, you’ll love them! Here’s what you’ll need.

2 boneless turkey breasts

1 bottle of Italian dressing

1 10oz box of Kentucky Kernel seasoned flour

1 10oz bag of New Orleans seasoned fish fry breading

1 qt of vegetable, peanut, or canola oil

1 big appetite because this stuff is good!

First you will need to cut the turkey breast into either nuggets or strips, whichever you prefer. Marinate the turkey in the Italian dressing for at least 4 hours. Mix the Kentucky Kernel and Louisiana fish fry breading together in a 1 gallon Ziploc bag. Heat your oil in a pot or pan to 350 degrees. You just want the oil to be about 2 inches deep. While the oil is heating up, drop the marinated turkey into the breading mix. There’s no need to dry the turkey off, just drop it right into the breading. I don’t recommend tossing all of the turkey in there at once, just do it in batches. Mix the turkey and breading thoroughly. You can then either place the dredged turkey on a wire rack to dry a little or carefully place it into the oil. I’ve done both and they all came out great.

Then all you have to do is fry until it’s a golden brown, drain on paper towels, let it cool down a little so you don’t remove the skin on the roof of your mouth, which is annoying as all get out, and dip it in your favorite dipping sauce. I made a twist on Mississippi Comeback Sauce but I wasn’t too impressed. I think next time I’ll either use Chik-fil-A dipping sauce or D Hughes Famous Cluckin’ Sauce. I could drink a bottle of either one of them!

As always, please leave a comment and let us know what you think!
